Chattooga County residents who have not paid their 2022 property taxes will need to get those paid as soon as possible.  Interest and penalties start today after Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton offered a grace period.

Originally, taxes were to have been paid on December 1st.  However, the tax commissioner said that due to the fact her office was under major renovation because of the Labor Day Weekend flood that struck downtown Summerville, she would accept tax payments without penalty through December 11.  The tax office was closed on Saturday and Sunday, but the tax commissioner said any taxes that were mailed in with a postmark of December 11 or earlier, would not be considered late.  Also, anyone who put their payments in the drop box at the tax office over the weekend will not incur any penalties or interest.

The Chattooga County Tax Office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM and is closed Wednesdays, weekends and major holidays.
