Come warm yourself by the fire tonight in the Couey House at Christmas in the Park. Both fireplaces will have a roaring fire which will cast a warm glow on all the beautiful natural Christmas decorations. Everyone has passed this most historic house many times but not had a chance to enter. Tonight it the night ! After seeing Santa in the Depot, walk on over to see an early Chattooga County Christmas.

Built in the early 1840’s by Andrew McSelland Couey and his sons, this log house was one of the earliest pioneer homes in Chattooga County. Originally, the house was located in Dirt Town Valley near Tidings, Georgia but was moved to Summerville by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The relocation to Dowdy Park in Summerville was begun in 1995 and the house was given to the City of Summerville in 1998.

During Christmas in the Park, free tours of the Couey House will be given by the Chattooga County Historical Society. The house is furnished in period appropriate furnishing that would have been appropriate of Chattooga County families in the early 1840-1850’s. The Chattooga County Garden Club will adorn the house with all natural Christmas Decor.
