With temperatures plunging into the single digits and wind chills well below zero, the Cloudland Volunteer Fire Department is reminding us about some cold weather safety tips:
1. If you have a sink or any other water using appliance that uses the outside wall, then leave your cabinets open to allow room heat to get in.
2. Close your vents to your crawl space and add insulation to openings where needed.
3. If you have a gray line that drains your sinks, washer, showers, then you may want to get your clothes and dishes washed before the cold front rolls on and freezes your gray line.
4. Keep space heaters away from the wall and keeping clothes and blankets away from the front. Propane grills, and heaters that attach to the top of a gas cylinder should never be used in a house.
5. Make sure hoses are disconnected from outside spigots.
6. If you lose your heat due to electricity going down, then contact 911 for assistance.
