Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey vetoed a motion passed by the Summerville City Council to give $2,500 to the Summerville Youth Wrestling Program.  The mayor and the city attorney contend that the donation that has been given for many years is “illegal”, but city council members voted 4-1 to give the money to the program at their last meeting.

Mayor Harvey warned the council that he would veto the measure.  WZQZ News learned that the mayor vetoed the measure on Wednesday of this week.

The motion to approve the donation was made by Summerville City Councilman Rickey Hughes, and every  council member except David Ford voted in favor of the giving the money to the wrestling program.

Councilman Hughes told WZQZ News on Thursday, “I’m terribly disappointed that a contribution that is meant to help our young people has been over ruled”.
