A twenty-nine-year-old Illinois man was arrested in Chattooga County last week after a deputy found suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

According to a report released this week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Findencio Ruiz Lopez was clocked doing 75 mph in a 55 mph speed zone on Highway 27  shortly after 1 AM on December 29th.  Lopez was stopped by a Chattooga County deputy but told the deputy he didn’t speak English.

The deputy requested backup from the Trion Police Department.  While speaking further with Lopez, the deputy asked him if he had any drugs on his person.  According to the report, Lopez reached in his pocket and handed the deputy a paper towel with foil wrapping on the inside that contained a clear crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Lopez was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of speeding and drug possession.
