Hometown Headlines in Rome reported on Friday afternoon that a thirty-nine-year-old Armuchee man was taken into custody and charged with felony homicide by vehicle and other charges in connection with a fatal accident that happened on Martha Berry Highway near Rhinehart Equipment on Wednesday of this week.

A 39-year-old Armuchee man has been charged in the collision Wednesday that killed a Rome mother of six children.

Edward Junior Lawrence was in custody as of midday Friday, according to Floyd County Police Sgt. Chris Fincher. Lawrence is charged with felony homicide by vehicle, felony leaving the scene of an accident and improper lane change, Fincher says.

Hilda Lopez Santizo-Perez, 37, of Rome was driving a Nissan Altima that was hit in the wreck on Martha Berry near Rhinehart Equipment Co. Her 3-year-old son escaped serious injury.

A search for Lawrence and a Lincoln Town Car spotted leaving the scene had been under way since the afternoon of the wreck. The car was identified by police and was found on Thursday.

Lopez is survived by her husband, Genaro Lopez, and six children, five of whom attend schools in the Armuchee district.

Funeral arrangements are still tentative as Lopez’ body will be sent to the GBI crime lab before being released to the family.
