The Summerville City Council met on Monday evening and was presented with a veto by Mayor Harry Harvey.  Harvey vetoed a $2,500 donation to the Summerville Youth Wrestling organization, calling the donation “illegal”.

The mayor was acting on the advise of the city attorney who said that the donation, which the council has given for many years, is in violation of the law.  The council voted to go ahead with the donation, despite the mayor’s warning that he would veto the measure.

The council was presented with the mayor’s veto at Monday’s meeting and made no move to overturn the veto.

In other business at the meeting on Monday, the council held the first reading of the year-end budget and took care of approving several expenditures.

The council also honored former State Senator Jeff Mullis for his service for over two decades representing Northwest Georgia in the Georgia State Senate.
