Summerville Police were called to the Dollar Tree in Summerville on Thursday of this week after two customers scammed a cashier out of $150. The two suspects brought two inexpensive items to the cashier and paid with a $50 bill. They then began to talk fast and ask the cashier for different change out of the cash register. They continued to confuse the seventeen-year-old cashier to the point that she wound up giving them the $50 they originally paid with, along with $100 more dollars from the register. The store manager called police after it was discovered that the cash drawer was short $150. Summerville Police told the store manager that they have seen this scam before, where the thieves will confuse the cashier and “talk fast” in order to confuse the employee into giving them money from the cash drawer.
