Georgia’s workers still have plenty of options when it comes to employment, and that includes plenty of open positions in Chattooga County. 

One of the issues facing Georgia’s new labor commissioner Bruce Thompson will be finding enough employees to fill the thousands of job opening across the state.  While unemployment rates have gone up slightly, the rates are still very low compared to rates over the past two decades.

With so many workers employed, it is making it difficult to recruit new workers to open positions.  Right now in Chattooga County, there are multiple job openings including manufacturing jobs at Smith Iron Works in Lyerly and positions for janitors, bus monitors and a school nurse being advertised by both local school systems.

This past week, Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry told WZQZ News that he is considering contracting-out the county’s sanitation transportation because the county can’t find enough truck drivers to haul the waste to landfills.

As we enter 2023, one of the biggest challenges for employers will be attracting and retaining workers in a already crowded job market.
