Work is expected to begin sometime next month on installing new artificial turf at the Chattooga High School football stadium.  The artificial turf will mean that the stadium’s use won’t be as dependent on the weather.

Chattooga County School Supt. Jared Hosmer said that the old field will be taken up and the new turf will be installed in the coming weeks.

Chattooga Board of Education Chairman Eddie Elsberry told WZQZ News, “The turf field will allow the field to be used daily even in rain and wet weather. This will not only benefit the football program but also Summerville recreation program, our band, soccer teams, Physical Education and any other activities”.

Elsberry added, “The project will start by removing soil down to grade needed, install drainage and base for “turf” then install the turf. The track will be installed allowing us to have a track that meets GHSA specifications. This will allow Chattooga to not only practice on proper length and width track but also host track meets. Chattooga has had multiple state champions in Track and Field over the past years with no proper facilities to practice on. Our students and community deserve this upgrade to enhance the total educational experience at CHS. The pride in the schools are already building around these projects. This along with our top notch vocational program and excellent academic programs make our campus second to none”.
