The commission overseeing the regulation of medical marijuana will be voting on rules for the program on Wednesday of this week. The state is facing a lawsuit from 16 companies that were denied a medical marijuana license by the state – including one company that planned to operate a facility in the Trion Industrial Park in Chattooga County.

The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission is expected to vote Wednesday on rules governing all aspects of the program from growing the leaf crop in greenhouses under close supervision to manufacturing low-THC cannabis oil to treat patients suffering from a variety of diseases to selling the product at a network of dispensaries across the state.

Lawmakers are expected to address the issue during the legislative session that recently got underway.  An attempt to expand the number of licenses from six to twenty-two failed in the General Assembly last year.
