Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News on Wednesday afternoon that the county’s inmates are still being housed at the Dade County Jail.  On Monday of this week, all of the inmates were transferred after a gas leak at the Chattooga County Jail in Summerville.

The sheriff said that he is replacing the faulty furnace and another furnace at the aging jail.  The furnaces dated back to the 1980’s when the jail was built, according to Schrader.

The sheriff is hoping that the new furnaces can be installed and that the inmates can be brought back to Chattooga County within the next several days.
