The Chattooga County Tax Commissioner says if you receive an intent to FiFa letter from her office, you should act quickly to get your back taxes paid.

Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says, “Intent to Fi Fa letters went out last week for any property tax that was due December 1st of last year and remains unpaid. Interest is accruing monthly on these bills and the largest penalty will hit in March; so we are sending the reminders now before those penalties hit. If you get one of these letters, please pay the 2022 taxes before March 20th to avoid the largest penalty and/or a tax lien”.

The tax commissioner added, “These letters give a 30 day notice and in most places are sent out the day after taxes were due. However, I will give longer on these letters and plan to file the fi fas on March 20, 2023. If you receive a TAX LEVY letter, that means you are already slated for tax sale and should pay ASAP”.
