A Romanian national traveling through Chattooga County was arrested after he was found speeding, doing 91 in a 65 MPH zone.
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, twenty-one-year-old Cathlin Turcanu was clocked by a sheriff’s deputy doing 91 MPH as he was traveling in a rented U-Haul on U.S. Highway 27 in the Gore area, near the Gore Fire Hall. The deputy pursued the vehicle and performed a traffic stop half-way up Taylor’s Ridge.
When the deputy spoke with Turcanu, the man told the deputy that he was from Romania and that he was here with his family. He had been detained by immigration when he entered the United States and was then released and scheduled for a hearing in October of this year. The driver also explained that he had just received a ticket in Alabama for driving without a license, child restraint violation and speeding. He also provided paperwork where he had rented the U-Haul in Mississippi.
The deputy observed a small female child in the U-Haul who was not in a child safety seat, nor restrained in any way.
Turcanu was arrested and charged with child safety restraint violation, speeding and driving without a valid license and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
