The Coke Bottle Art in downtown Summerville has a new addition, and this one highlights disability awareness.

Summerville Main Street Director Susan Locklear said that the subject of the art was chosen because of the awareness that Chattooga County resident Spann Cordle has brought to the issue over the years.  Local artist Billy Smith painted the Coke bottle to honor Cordle and his late service dog “Finn”.  The bottle was unveiled on Tuesday in downtown Summerville at a ceremony on Commerce Street.  Locklear said, “The greatest barriers that persons with disabilities have to overcome are not steps or curbs but expectations. Spann and Finn have served this community and made a positive impact on countless individuals.”

Cordle is  a Chattooga High School graduate class of 1977, from there he went on to graduate from Jacksonville State University in 1982 with double majors in Criminal Justice and Political Science. He attended Graduate School from 1982-84 and earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Administration.
