A would-be catalytic converter thief left plenty of evidence behind for Summerville Police investigators.

Police received a call to come to a Highway 48 address and spoke with the complainant who showed the responding officer where someone had removed the lock from a gate and damaged a latch on an outbuilding.  The suspect also attempted to cut the catalytic converter from two BMW’s located on the property.  The catalytic converters on BMW’s are located under the hood.

The would-be thief attempted to cut the muffler off of the vehicles, but was unsuccessful at that as well.

The responding officer was able to gather two broken saws-all blades, an empty pack of Marlboro cigarettes and a 13 mm socket , along with a “Drug Free Chattooga” ink pen as evidence.

The incident has been turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.
