The Rome City Commission voted down a proposal that would have changed the rules for serving alcohol and allowed smaller establishments the opportunity to serve alcohol.  According to a report from WRGA in Rome, city commissioners shot down a proposal that would have changed the food serving requirements and minimized the allowable square footage for establishments wanting to serve alcohol.  Commissioners in favor of the proposal say that the way Rome’s alcohol licenses are now, larger, chain restaurants get the opportunity to serve alcohol, while small, independently owned establishments have a harder time meeting the requirements.  The “small bar” proposal was defeated in a 4-3 vote by Rome City Commissioners earlier this week.
