Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding property owners that the deadline to file homestead tax exemption is approaching.
Hampton says, “Don’t forget! March 31st is the deadline to apply for homestead exemptions. If you own your home (as shown on the deed) and live in it, you can qualify for exemptions that give you discounts on your property tax. Exemptions are handled by the Tax Assessor’s office (right across the hall from me) and you can check their website to see if you have exemptions on your property currently.”
Also, it should be noted, any property owner’s primary residence is eligible for homestead tax exemption regardless of the age of the homeowner.
