A tiny town in Northwest Georgia could lose its status as a town if a Georgia lawmaker’s bill is passed by the General Assembly. Ranger, Georgia, located in Gordon County, has a population of 137 people. A notice legal notice printed in Saturday’s Calhoun Times states the bill, introduced by State Representative Matt Barton, R-Calhoun, would repeal an April 1979 act for a new charter for the Town of Ranger because the town has failed to provide basic services to residents. According to Barton, he received a complaint from a citizen of Ranger about not being able to get in touch with town officials. Rep. Barton said when he called the town’s listed phone number, it had been disconnected and the building that formerly housed the town hall appeared to be abandoned. Ranger is located about 45 miles east of Summerville.
