A former Huntsville, Alabama police officer has been indicted for the murder of a Trion woman last year.  David Michael McCoy, age 29 has been charged with three counts of capital murder for the January 7, 2022 shooting death of twenty-six-year-old Courtney Spraggins of Trion.

The first count was for the death of Spraggins, while the second was for the alleged killing of Spraggins and her unborn child. The third count was for killing a child under 14, which in this case was the unborn child. Spraggins was seven months pregnant with McCoy’s daughter at the time of her death, her family said.

McCoy reportedly told Spraggins to drive from Trion to Hunstville last year and she arrived at his apartment shortly after 8 AM on January 7, 20222.  Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Special Agent Brittany Hayes says that Spraggins was then killed by McCoy.

The indictment against McCoy was handed down at the end of March.  Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.
