On Monday of this week, Summerville Police responded to Jefferson’s Restaurant on Commerce Street around 10 PM after receiving reports about a man being assaulted inside the restroom at the restaurant.

When police arrived on the scene, they spoke with the victim, Billy Joe Dooley, who told them he had gone in to use the restroom and two males followed him inside.  Dooley said that one of the men asked him if Dooley remembered him.  The assailant told Dooley that he had repossessed a motorcycle from him in the past and proceeded to attack Dooley and attempted to rob him.  The victim said that the men continued to assault him repeatedly, causing visible injuries.

Police interviewed several witnesses to the event, that corroborated the victim’s story.  Through still pictures and video surveillance from the restaurant, police were able to identify the primary assailant as thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Michael Cook of LaFayette.

Police went to LaFayette and spoke with Cook, who placed the blame on Mr. Dooley, saying that the victim started the incident by punching him in the chest after telling Cook that he still owed him money and he “didn’t know who the **** he was messing with”.  Cook claimed that “one thing lead to another” and the two began to fight.

Summerville Police have obtained a warrant for Cook’s arrest, charging him with battery and disorderly conduct.
