A forty-six-year-old man was arrested by Walker County authorities this past week after charges that he abandoned several pigs in the Rossville area.

Back in January of this year, Walker County Sheriff’s deputies and Walker County Animal Control responded to a call about emaciated pigs at a home in the Rossville area.  When they arrived, they found several pigs that were deceased and a female sow, along with a pig that “appeared to be clinging on for life” and were visible starving.

Officers were able to feed the surviving pigs some dog food and capture the sow. Rossville Police were able to later catch the small pig by returning and feeding it for several days.  Officers knew the suspect from previous calls and knew that he and his wife had moved to Tennessee.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office took out warrants on Curtis Lamar Harris on felony animal cruelty charges.  Harris was arrested last week and released from the Walker County Jail after posting bond.

Walker County officials are still looking for Harris’ wife, who has also been charged in connection with the incident.
