Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says her office is now  able to process rebuilt title applications.

Hampton said, “It used to work like this: you buy a vehicle from another state, bring in the title and we get stopped at one step because it has a rebuilt brand from the other state. We’d have to send you for an inspection, then you had to mail your paperwork to Atlanta and wait for it to be processed. Some of you know that was a LONG wait because Atlanta has a huge volume to process. If this happens now, once you’ve passed inspection you can bring it to our office and get on the road the same day if everything is in order. This will save people weeks and months of waiting”.

The tax commissioner says that salvage titles will still have to go to Atlanta; but rebuilt titles are the most common- so this is good news for Chattooga County residents.

Hampton added, “I’ve been begging for this opportunity since 2017, and it’s finally going to happen”.  The Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s Office processed the first rebuilt title last week.
