Walker County Animal Control reported last week that they assisted LaFayette Police with a hoarding case in which a couple had over 90 animals on their property. Of the 93 animals, 83 were cats.
According to LaFayette Police, the couple were cooperative with police and family members say that the couple were trying to help stray animals, but were overwhelmed with the care for them. The cats and ten dogs were taken into the Walker County Animal Shelter, but police say that the scene was “extremely disturbing”.
Police said that the animals, and the couple were living in terrible conditions, but all of the animals appeared to be healthy. Police said that they did find skeletal remains of animals on the property on North Enloe Street in LaFayette.
Thirty-eight-year-old Christopher Pell and thirty-one-year-old Catherine Marcus were charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and booked into the Walker County Jail. The couple were released after posting bond.
