A fifty-seven-year-old Trion man was arrested last Thursday after he discharged a shotgun towards the road.
According to a report released this week by the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to Maffet Street in Trion at the request of the Trion Fire Department. The fire department was in the process of putting out an illegal burn at Bobby Lee Evett’s residence. Evett was being irate with the fire department and making threats about shooting his neighbor. Deputies advised Evett to not make threats of that nature and left after the fire was extinguished. A short time later, a deputy on patrol in the area heard a shotgun go off. The deputy came upon a woman who was frantic due to the gun shot as her small child was playing outside.
As the deputy approached Evett’s residence, he observed Evett in the yard with the shotgun. When the deputy approached Evett, he at first denied having the shotgun, but the deputy told Evett that he had been seen with the gun. The deputy spoke with Evett’s wife who said that Evett had shot a handgun before shooting the shotgun. A witness told deputies she heard Evett say “Call the (expletive) cops. I’m crazy”.
Evett was arrested and charged with discharging a gun near a public road, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and disorderly conduct and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
