Word came on Friday that a court date set for the lawsuit between the City of Rome and carpet manufacturers, along with  manufacturers of “forever chemicals” has been officially cancelled.  Bloomberg News reported unnamed sources that estimated the settlement will amount to more than $100 million.

While that is good news for Rome water customers, there are still two more pending lawsuits that have to do with the “forever chemicals”, or PFAS.

One of those is Parris v. 3M, et. al., and makes the same allegations regarding forever chemicals dumped into the Chattooga River and Raccoon Creek in Chattooga County.  That lawsuit, along with Johnson v. 3M, et. al., is still pending in the Northern District of Georgia federal court.

All of the lawsuits are seeking to recoup costs associated with local water departments efforts to remove “forever chemicals” from local drinking water supplies.
