Chattooga County is just one of the cities and counties in Northwest Georgia to benefit from a settlement of over $2 million from an opioid lawsuit in Northwest Georgia. Local governments nationwide are collecting over $50 billion in settlements from lawsuits against some of the nation’s largest drug manufacturers.
After more than a month of communications with state attorneys general, private lawyers working on the settlement, and the settlement administrators, KFF Health News has obtained documents showing the exact dollar amounts that local governments were allocated for 2022 and 2023.
Chattooga County government will be collecting $101,991 from the settlements.
Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry told WZQZ News on Monday that it has not been decided how the money will be used.
