Recently a lawsuit between the City of Rome and manufacturers of what is commonly known as “forever chemicals” which include PFAS, was settled and the City of Rome announced this week that they will be building a new water treatment facility with the money from that settlement. A similar lawsuit against manufacturers by the City of Summerville and a local resident still is pending with no trial date set. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday that the precise amount of Rome’s settlement was not revealed due to confidentiality agreements. Rome’s new water treatment plant is expected to cost $100 million and will come at no cost to taxpayers because of the lawsuit settlement.
