While every county in Northwest Georgia showed a slight increase in the unemployment rate for the month of May, Chattooga’s unemployment rate remained the same at 3.9%. Chattooga’s unemployment rate was also the highest in the region, according to numbers released yesterday (Thursday, June 22, 2023) by the Georgia Department of Labor. Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said, “Despite an uptick in the unemployment rate, Georgia’s economy and job market remains red hot while the number of claims remains relatively low – especially, compared to the national numbers”. Georgia’s jobless rate in May was 3.2%, up a tenth of a percent after nine consecutive months at 3.1%; the national unemployment rate was 3.7%.
