Two deadly crashes in DeKalb County, Alabama have resulted in the death of two people, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The first accident on Thursday took the life of a New York man and the second accident on Friday took the life of a dump truck driver as he attempted to negotiate a curve coming off Lookout Mountain.
Law enforcement officials say the accident on Thursday happened on I-59 about a mile north of Fort Payne when a semi-truck ran into the back of another semi that was parked on the side of the interstate. Kaysohn T. Baker, age 32, of West Hempstead, New York was fatally injured when the 2015 International Durastar he was a passenger in left the roadway and hit a parked 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
The second accident happened on Highway 35 near Wallace Avenue when a dump truck coming off Lookout Mountain crashed at an area that is locally known as “Joe’s Truck Stop”. The area is not a business, but a concrete barrier that was erected to prevent vehicles coming off the mountain from coming onto private property. The driver of the dump truck was fatally injured. Law enforcement had not released the dump-truck driver’s name as of Saturday.
