Chattooga County School Nutrition Program is beginning preparation for the USDA Summer Feeding Program again this year. This program serves free meals to all children under the age of 18 during June and July. Organizers say that they need your help! They are looking for creative ideas about ways and places to feed as many needy children as possible this summer.

The Chattooga County School Nutrition Program is looking for individuals or churches, civic, and community groups that would volunteer to manage and/or provide a site. The sites may be church buildings, playgrounds, parks, vacation bible schools, apartment complexes, community centers, or any place that children may gather in the summer.

Each site can be managed by one to two people for as little as an hour a day. Site volunteers will be required to attend a short training session. The training will be held in May and will teach volunteers their three main duties: 1) Insure that only children receive meal 2) Keep a tally on a form provided of the meals served and 3) Monitor simple food safety procedures.

The School Nutrition Program will prepare all meals and transport to as many sites as possible. Transportation volunteers are also welcome.
