Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a man with warrants on Spring Creek Road this past Saturday afternoon.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a deputy spotted a van at a house on Spring Creek Road that he believe to be driven by the wanted man.  The deputy called for backup and stopped at the house and saw the wanted man running toward the woods.  A woman at the house told deputies that the man was hiding in a shed, but deputies say that the woman was only trying to give the man more time to escape by distracting their search.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jonathan Dewayne Oates was captured and charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement and probation violation.  The woman, identified as thirty-year-old Shelby Ellarae Williams, was also taken into custody and charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

Williams told deputies that she wanted to give Oates more time to “get things together” before he turned himself in.
