Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader is reminding drivers on the county’s roadways during the Fourth of July holiday that his deputies will be out in force looking for impaired drivers.
Last year during the Fourth of July holidays there were five people arrested for driving under the influence in Chattooga County, and one was arrested for public drunkenness. There were 370 DUI arrests statewide in 2022.
The Fourth of July travel period last year was 78 hours long, running from Friday to Monday. This year, the Georgia State Patrol announced the Independence Day holiday count began on Friday and runs until Tuesday at midnight and is 102 hours long and ends at midnight on the Fourth of July.
Sheriff Schrader said, “Remember, BUZZED driving is DRUNK driving!! Please let everyone have a safe weekend. We will be watching!”.
