Several species of wildlife that call Georgia home have made the threatened and endangered lists.

When wildlife hits the endangered list, experts say a species is at risk of extinction, including the North Atlantic Right Whale. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the mammal is known to migrate south off the coast of Georgia during the winter months. Wildlife threatened means it’s slightly better off than being at risk of extinction. Across the state, that includes reptiles like the eastern indigo snake and loggerhead sea turtle, along with the frosted flat woods salamander, an amphibian.

The loss of habitats is the main reason for the endangered and threatened wildlife.
