The Gore Volunteer Fire Department recently sent a letter explaining new rates for membership fees.  You can read the letter below:

We respond in any call for assistance in storms and any many other situations.

We are fortunate to have 2 stations to aid in response times to more remote areas in our coverage zone.

Each year there is an increasing cost of emergency personal protective equipment and all the other supplies, building/grounds maintenance along with apparatus owned by the department.

The Gore Area Volunteer Fire Department is a not for profit 501-3/C Cooperation founded in 1988. The Department has a 7-person Board of Directors that oversee spending and budget issues independent of the Fire Dept. administration. Our primary source of revenue is a $9,600.00 donation yearly from the Chattooga County Commissioner. However, to aid in funding our founders established the annual subscription for home/business owners in the community to become shareholders by a yearly financial donation to the department.

Residents of our community receive lower cost on their homeowner’s insurance due to the class 5 ISO rating. ISO is the organization that the insurance industry uses to establish rates for property based on the emergency responding agency that covers that area.

We have increased our membership fee as follows: New resident membership/1styear: $200.00 Then annually: $100.00 We appreciate the dedication to service from all our personnel on both sides of our agency. However, we need the community’s continued SUPPORT as well and look forward to serving all the families that have found home in the “Pride of the South Side!” The Gore Fire Department’s coverage area.
