Big changes are here for Menlo Elementary School students who will be starting the year in a brand-new school building. Menlo Principal Paula Buice says that the first day of school will be a bit different as parking at the new facility is limited for now. The first day of school is next Friday, July 28th and students can be dropped off between 7 AM – 8 AM; however, parents won’t be able to walk their students in on the first day of school. But the school is arranging for a bus service for parents who want to walk their children into the classroom on the first day of school. You can see all the details below:
We hope this post finds you well and excited for the upcoming school year. We are thrilled to announce that we will start the 2023-24 school year in our brand-new building. It is a stunning facility we cannot wait to share with all of you. However, parking will be extremely limited for now due to ongoing construction in the parking area.
On the first day of school, Friday, July 28, 2023, there will be changes to the morning drop-off procedure. Students can be dropped off on campus between 7:00-8:00 a.m. However, parents will be unable to walk their children to the classrooms during this time due to limited parking. We understand this may be disappointing, but we have an alternative solution.
We have arranged a bus service for parents to walk their children to the classroom, meet their teacher, and see inside our beautiful new facility. One parent, accompanied by their child and/or children, may take the bus from the Menlo Ball Field to the school according to the following schedule:
Friday, July 28, 2023
8:15 – PreK & Kindergarten Students
9:00 – 1st & 2nd Grade Students
9:45 – 3rd and 4th Grade Students
10:30 – 5th and 6th Grade Students
11:15 – 7th & 8th Grade Students
If you have children in multiple grades, please choose one time frame to escort your children on the bus ride. It is important to note that this opportunity accommodates students’ needs and parents’ wishes to be part of the first-day experience, but it is not mandatory. Students may still be dropped off in the morning from 7:00-8:00 at the front of the building or ride on the bus that picks up on the regular route.
Please exercise caution and prioritize safety during morning and afternoon transportation. Due to the construction of the parking area during the first week or two of school, the afternoon pickup process may be slightly prolonged as we will have a one-way entrance to accommodate both car and bus riders.
The car pickup line will begin on Chamblee Road and come around to the school entrance for afternoon pickup. Please be mindful that buses will unload at the front of the building in the same unloading zone as car riders.
As progress continues on our new campus, we will plan for opportunities for parents to visit and explore our new facility. We are incredibly proud of our new complex and look forward to sharing it with all our parents, students, and community members. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this construction process.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We support you and ensure a smooth transition into the new school year.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Warm regards,
Paula Buice
MES Principal
