The Georgia State Patrol released a report on Monday morning about an accident that happened last Thursday evening on Highway 48 at the intersection of Mahan Road.
According to the report, a forty-nine-year-old woman in a 2023 Kia K5 was stopped at the stop sign at Mahan Road and pulled into the path of a 2006 GMC Canyon pickup truck driven by a forty-one-year-old Cloudland resident. The driver of the Kia, identified in the report as Tara Houk of Casselberry, Florida told state troopers that she noticed a sheriff’s patrol car in the turn lane on Highway 48 who was making a right-hand turn onto Mahan Road and did not see the oncoming GMC pickup truck. The driver of the GMC pickup, Teresa Holbrook, told troopers that she had no time to avoid the accident and struck the van that pulled into her path.
Houk was transported by EMS to a Floyd County hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Houk was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.
The driver of the GMC and her twelve-year-old daughter were transported by private vehicle to a Rome hospital. The twelve-year-old was later transported to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga due to internal injuries sustained in the wreck.
