A local chapter of Moms for Liberty has been established in Chattooga County.

According to the local chapter’s Facebook page, “Moms for Liberty – Chattooga County, GA is dedicated to the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government.”  The organizations says that they are looking for parents, grandparents, and community members that value parental rights to join the organization.

According to NPR, “Moms for Liberty, founded in early 2021 by conservative women in Florida, has quickly expanded its presence across the country. It has landed national media attention for its efforts — sometimes successful — to fight COVID safety measures in schools, ban books, limit discussion about race and LGBTQ identities and populate local school boards with conservatives.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center has put Moms for Liberty and similar organizations on its list of anti-government extremist entities, drawing comparisons between them and parent groups that attempted to re-segregate public schools during the civil rights movement.
