Summerville Police recently conducted an undercover operation involving an informant who told police that a Summerville resident was planning to burn his truck for the insurance money.

According to records from the Summerville Police Department the informant told police that 50 year old Charles Wesley Haley of a Jones Street address in Summerville had approached him about burning his vehicle so that he could collect insurance money.  Haley reportedly told the police informant that he would give him $1,000 if the insurance company paid off.

Summerville Police used an undercover camera to capture video images and audio of Haley and the informant discussing the burning of the truck and followed the two men to the Summerville Ingles parking lot where the truck was planned to be burned.  When Haley left the vehicle Summerville police arrested him on arson charges.

Haley told police that he was glad he was arrested because the insurance money might not have covered the amount he owed on the truck.  The police report indicated that the lien holder of the truck and the insurance company had been notified about Haley’s attempt to burn the truck and his subsequent arrest.
