Remember when summer break lasted most of the summer?  Chattooga County School students headed back to school at the end of July and Trion City School students started back last week on August 3rd.  There is one north Georgia county school system where students don’t head back to class until after Labor Day.
Murray County Schools first day of school is September 5, 2023.  Teachers in Murray County don’t go back to prepare for school until the last week of this month.  Does that mean Murray County Schools will be in school longer than other north Georgia school systems in the spring of 2024?  According to the Murray County School District calendar the last day of school for Murray County students will be Friday, May 24th – the Friday before Memorial Day.

The State of Georgia requires students to have 180 instructional school days – how those days are configured are left up to local school systems.
