The Chattooga and Chickamauga Railroad announced on Monday that they will be working on the railroad crossing at Highway 27 and Commerce Street in Summerville next month. Local motorists have been hoping for some relief at the crossing, located near the intersection of Farrar Drive, just past George’s Kwik Stop. Recently, a tractor trailer’s airbag deployed when the driver crossed over the tracks and multiple drivers have contacted WZQZ about the bad conditions at the railroad crossing. Chattooga and Chickamauga Rail Road Operations Manager Donnie Owens notified Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry that the work on the crossing would start on Friday September 8, 2023 at 6 PM and continue through Tuesday morning, September 12, 2023 at 8 AM. The C&C Railroad says that the intersection will be closed while repairs are going on.
