A Calhoun native has been tapped to help lead the state’s top law enforcement agency.
Originally from Gordon County, Scott Dutton will return to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as the organization’s Assistant Director, it was announced Wednesday.
Having previously retired as Deputy Director of the GBI’s Investigative Division, Dutton was appointed by Director Chris Hosey to his new position.
“Assistant Director Dutton is a constant professional with extensive knowledge of the agency from his time with the GBI,” Hosey said in a press release. “I am grateful to AD Dutton for taking this role and look forward to his service to the agency.”
Dutton’s role will include assisting Hosey in overseeing the execution of the GBI’s investigative, scientific, information, and administrative services to the state.
Having worked for the GBI for 32 years prior to a 2020 retirement, Dutton started his law enforcement career as a deputy with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office in 1985, becoming a GBI special agent in 1988
