Earlier this week Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry released correspondence between the Chattooga & Chickamauga Railroad and his office concerning the rail road crossing on Highway 27 near Farrar Drive in Summerville.  The railroad is planning to repair the crossing in September, and it appears that could be clearing the way for trains to return to The Summerville Depot – maybe as early as this fall.

Summerville City Councilman Joe Money hinted in a post on social media on Friday that the city is in talks with the railroad about the trains returning sometime later this year.  Money told WZQZ News on Friday that Summerville Main Street Director Susan Locklear is in talks with the railroad about a possible schedule.

The trains were stopped due to conditions on the railroad further north on the rail line and have not bee in operation for some time.  Those repairs have been made and the work on the crossing in Summerville should be complete before the middle of September.

In the past, the popular excursion trains would bring in tourists from Chattanooga to The Summerville Depot and the historic roundtable at Dowdy Park.  The return of the trains would be a return of more tourism dollars to Summerville and Chattooga County.
