“Grandstanding” and “shameless fundraising efforts” are just a couple of the terms being used to describe State Senator Colton Moore’s call for a special session of the Georgia General Assembly “to include, without limitation, the review and response of the actions of Fani Willis”. Willis is the Fulton County prosecutor that is leading the legal action against former President Donald Trump on charges that he tried to interfere with the 2020 General Election in Georgia.
In order for the state legislature to call itself into a special session, it would require a three-fifths majority to do so. Even if every Republican signed onto Moore’s call for a special session, it still wouldn’t be enough signatures for the special session to happen.
Moore has enjoyed a lot of attention from the statement last week from conservative media, but he has been roundly criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike for the call for a special session. An email from Moore regarding the call for the special session included a donation link for “Moore for Georgia”.
Meanwhile, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, who is enjoying immense popularity in the state, continues to distance himself from the former President and indicated that he would be willing to testify in the trial against former President Trump if he is asked.
Moore represents Chattooga, Floyd, Dade and Walker Counties in the Georgia Senate.
