Berry classes are canceled through noon, while Shorter classes are canceled for the day. Both campuses have reported extensive damage and dozens of trees down.
A Berry spokesperson said that ‘8 or 9’ trees have fallen on cars on campus. Power is out to all areas surrounding Shorter University including traffic lights and trees have completely blocked entrances and exits on the Hill.
Aimee Madden, PR specialist with Shorter College, called from her car that was stranded between two large trees on the campus. From her vantage point, she said she could see at least six large trees down around the welcome center on campus.
All Floyd County Schools will release students at 1 p.m. today, said spokesman Tim Hensley. All afterschool activities have been canceled as well.
Rome Superintendent Gayland Cooper said all afterschool activities have been canceled, and he urged parents to use caution this afternoon when schools ends. If the weather is bad at that time, said Cooper, he doesn’t want students on the roads.
