A $1 million Community Development Block Grant will allow Chattooga County to replace some of the oldest water lines in the county’s water system.

The Chattooga County Water District was formed in 1950 and originally served a portion of the county, mainly north of Trion.   Now, the district covers the county with over 80% of the county’s residents having access to county water.

The water lines that will be replaced are in the the Old Highway 27 / Airport Road area.  The county will first have to complete surveying before the job can be let out for bid.  It is expected that the repairs will take around eight months.

The project will be benefiting 131 Chattooga County residents.  Around 73% of those residents are low-to-moderate income households.

The county will be kicking in $224,000 in matching funds to complete the project.
