A former Walker County Deputy and Chattooga County resident was found guilty of incest in Chattooga County Superior Court. The judge in the case declared a mistrial in a portion of the criminal case against Stephen Zachary Williams after a jury deliberated on other charges against Williams that included rape, aggravated sodomy and sexual battery. The crimes were believed to have been committed in Chattooga County. The jury unanimously voted to convict Williams on the charges of incest. The GBI investigated the case against Williams at the request of Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. Williams worked for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office from 2018 until the investigation began on the incest and rape charges in 2021. Williams can be retried on the other charges in Chattooga County Superior Court.
