A sixty-seven-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence after he was seen speeding on Highway 27. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy clocked the man driving 78 mph on Highway 27 coming into Summerville. The deputy performed a traffic stop inside the city limits and called for assistance from Summerville Police. The driver admitted to the deputy that he had a “shot of bourbon” before he left Rockmart. Joel Edward Ozment was charged with DUI for alcohol, speeding, no proof of insurance and failure to change license within 60 days of moving. He was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on the charges last Friday.
