A high-speed chase on Highway 114 on Wednesday afternoon ended at the Circle K on the Lyerly Highway in Summerville when the driver that was being chased swerved to avoid spike sticks that law enforcement had place in the roadway and crashed. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, the driver was injured and transported to an area hospital. WZQZ News will have more details on the chase and the crash as it becomes available. UPDATE: Sheriff Schrader told WZQZ News that the car chase initiated in Cedar Bluff, Alabama when Cedar Bluff Police attempted a traffic stop. The suspect traveled north into Chattooga County and sheriff’s patrol cars joined the chase north of Lyerly. The suspect drove through one set of spike strips and continued on towards Summerville, where the Summerville Police Department had deployed spike strips on Highway 114. In an attempt to avoid those spike strips, the suspect left the roadway and hit a concrete barrier at the Circle K gas station.
The suspect then fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended in the parking lot of the Circle K.
Sheriff Schrader said that the suspect had no identification on him and refused to give his name to law enforcement. The suspect was then transported to an area hospital with non-specified injuries.
