Earlier this month, a Summerville Police officer on routine patrol on Favor Street noticed a man who appeared to be tampering with a water meter.  The officer knew that there had been prior issues with the water being turned off for lack of payment and stopped to talk with the subject.

The officer called the city water department who confirmed that a lock had been placed on the meter – but when the officer looked, there was no lock present.  While speaking to the subject, the man became irritated and said he had not removed the lock.  In the process of emptying his pockets to try to prove that he didn’t have a lock, the man took out a blunt marijuana cigarette.  The officer then found additional marijuana cigarettes on the man’s person.

The man was becoming more agitated and the officer took out his taser.  The subject then lunged towards the officer, trying to grab the taser from the officer’s hands.  At that point, the officer deployed the taser and the subject fell to the ground.  The officer told the subject that he hoped he hadn’t gone through all of that over a misdemeanor marijuana blunt.

It turns out, the man also had suspected crystal methamphetamine on his person.

Fifty-eight-year-old Guy Brown was arrested on drug possession charges and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
